Since the world is in a state of constant change and evolution, it is always important to stay as current as possible in regard to these changes and innovations. This applies in all areas of life, but above all in the field of employment and professional development. Translators and translation agencies are no exception.
Agencies need to be ahead of the pack in the translation market, and this is reflected in the type of service they should offer. Today there is a marked trend that services need to meet the basic requirements: a large volume of words with a high level of quality and delivery within a reasonable time (a time that is usually imposed by the client). In pursuit of these requirements, agencies need to employ all the tools and methods that are available and that, as we mentioned before, are constantly evolving and development: translation memory and optimized, customized memory engines that allow agencies to specialize in translating texts in certain areas and sectors, highly trained staff, and the best management and production tools.
On the other hand, the same applies to the production sector, more precisely with the translators, editors and proofreaders. For this sector, it is also essential to not fall behind in terms of growth and development of techniques and tools used in this profession. The transition between Trados 8 and Trados 2009, for example, is a clear evidence of this. Use of this new tool is growing every day, to the point that it not only provides a means to translate in a more secure and reliable fashion, but it also ensures more and better communication between the management sector (Project Managers) and production sector.
In conclusion, it is noteworthy that growth must come from the two fundamental pillars of the business, i.e. the area of management and production. These two must go hand in hand for growth to last. When an industry moves forward and members of the industry stay behind, the result is not satisfactory.
